San Tai Stone

about us

1973|Beginnings in a Technically Limited Environment

San Tai Mine was founded in 1973. At the time, Taiwan’s stone-processing technology was still underdeveloped. Serpentine extraction relied mostly on manual labor, diamond wire saws, and even blasting, while many mining areas were located along steep valleys, making operations difficult and risky.
Despite these limitations, the company began developing serpentine resources and basic processing, laying the groundwork for its early mining expertise.

1970s–1990s|Building Expertise and Understanding the Material

Throughout these decades, San Tai Mine continued studying the characteristics and structure of Verde Serpentine. The company refined its methods of extraction, evaluation, and processing, accumulating valuable experience that later supported major technical advancements.

1996|Introduction of Italian Chain Saw Technology

In 1996, with guidance from Taiwan’s Mining Bureau, San Tai Mine became the first in Taiwan to introduce high-efficiency Italian diamond chain saws.
This shifted the extraction process from blasting to precise and stable mechanical cutting. The terraced rock formations created by chain-saw operations also gave the Yuli mining area its distinct and recognizable landscape.

1997|Establishment of Gau Yang Yi Enterprise Co., Ltd.

Gau Yang Yi Enterprise Co., Ltd. was established in 1997.
By integrating raw-stone extraction, cutting, slab processing, storage, quality control, and logistics into a unified production line, the company strengthened the systemization and scalability of serpentine and Serpentine development, reinforcing San Tai Mine’s core role within Taiwan’s stone industry.

2010s|Expanding Production and Applications

San Tai Mine became one of Taiwan’s major developers of Verde Serpentine, supported by stable mineral reserves and production capacity.
The company promoted Taiwanese serpentine in both domestic and international markets, including architectural, material, and engineering applications. It also implemented resource-reuse initiatives by supplying stone offcuts to steel manufacturers as smelting flux.

2019|Launch of the Verde Home & Lifestyle Brand

In 2019, San Tai Mine established the Verde brand, introducing Verde Serpentine into lifestyle and interior design applications.
By applying craftsmanship and design thinking, Verde presents the material beyond its traditional role as building stone, bringing Taiwan’s Verde Serpentine to a wider global audience.

Moving Forward with a Commitment to Sustainability

Located in Hualien, the Gau Yang Yi Enterprise factory has become one of Taiwan’s key serpentine processing bases. The facility integrates extraction, cutting, polishing, quality control, and packaging into a streamlined, high-precision production process that supports numerous domestic and international construction and design projects.

In 2025, Gau Yang Yi Enterprise Co., Ltd. officially obtained the "Eco-Friendly Green Building Material Certification." This recognition symbolizes the company’s achievements in material processing, environmental management, and product sustainability.

Through this certification, the company not only reinforces its professional image in quality management but also demonstrates a long-term commitment to promoting green manufacturing and practicing circular utilization.
