The Story of San Tai Stone

San Tai Mine was founded in 1973, at a time when stone-processing technology in Taiwan was still developing. Due to limited trade and restricted access to imported raw blocks, the range of natural stones available in the local market was very narrow. Most people were familiar only with a few domestic materials such as marble, serpentine, and Daqangkou fossil stone. In this environment, San Tai Mine began its work in the mountains and river valleys of Hualien, focusing on the extraction of serpentine. Mining in those early years relied largely on diamond wire saws and manual handling, and the steep terrain made operations particularly difficult. Yet it was under these challenging conditions that the story of Taiwan’s Serpentine truly began. With limited resources, San Tai gradually accumulated technical experience, studying the characteristics and structure of serpentine and seeking safer, more stable methods of extraction. The company held a simple belief: the stones found in Taiwan’s land deserve to be recognized and refined into materials of lasting value. San Tai Mine did not begin with ideal conditions; instead, it built its foundation step by step in a demanding environment. Its understanding of the land, intuition for the material, and confidence in the future allowed San Tai to take the very first steps in developing Verde Serpentine as an architectural material in Taiwan.

 Taiwan Jade Serpentine

Taiwan Jade Serpentine (Serpentine Stone) comes from the serpentinite veins along the banks of the Laku Laku Creek (the name originates from the Bunun language: Laklak, also known as Lele Creek), the largest tributary of the Xiuguluan River. Its patterns resemble a snake's body and twist like flowing water. Hualien, Taiwan, is one of the three major mining locations in the world. This is an alkaline stone with porous characteristics and hydrogen free radicals, nurtured by nature over many years, forming various mineral crystals. The far-infrared rays and magnetic field it emits have been proven to offer many benefits to humans and living organisms, purifying both air and water, making it a beautiful redemption for modern living environments plagued by pollution. The most famous feature of Taiwan Jade Serpentine (Serpentine Stone) is its unpredictable black-and-white patterns and lush, vibrant green, which are its most classic and precious qualities, maintaining their uniqueness regardless of the passage of time.

Remarkable quality, lasting satisfaction.
